NYC’s transcendental black metal artists LITURGY kick off their month and a half long U.S. tour today in Pittsburgh. The band will play this weekend’s Scion Rock Fest alongside Pelican, Shrinebuilder and more, then blast their way south towards this year’s SXSW in Austin where they’re confirmed to play four full showcases throughout the week’s festivities. The band will also hit Bro Fest in Dallas alongside Rwake, White Mice and more, as well as MtyMx festival in Monterrey, Mexico alongside Dan Deacon, Andrew W.K., Acid Mother’s Temple and countless others.
LITURGY’s debut full-length Renihilation was released in late 2009 by 20 Buck Spin. The album was recorded and mastered at the Thousands Caves Of Menegroth with Colin Marston of Krallice at the helm.
“…New York’s premier metal band…” - New York Press
“Liturgy are the first black metal band that truly embodies the ghosts of New York. They play metal like it’s a minimalist downtown art/life/religion project in the tradition of dronemasters Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham and La Monte Young’s Dream Syndicate.” - The Village Voice
“Here swirls of raw, ethereal guitar noise life like a blinding snowstorm, and remain suspended in mid-air, somewhere between earth and the higher realm, like Liturgy are looking for light.” - Decibel
“If it weren’t for the relentless drums and the growling and screaming, these cyclical guitar riffs could easily be music for meditation.” - All Music Guide
